Embedded I/O Components for Communications, Convergence, and Networking

Technology Overview

Technology Overview

PCN has designed and developed its iPLC™ technology products to fill what the company believes is a significant gap in the embedded systems and vast vertical markets of mission critical control, communications, automation, networking and energy management needs on a global scale.

Appealing to the strict audience of mission critical OEM and ODM customers is not easy and the global market requirements are vastly different than traditional markets. Our customers have no tolerance for poor quality, security, reliability, capability or intermittent service.

PCN technology provides a mission critical plug and play solution meeting the strict demands of Industrial Automation, Sensor Networking needs of OEM and ODM worldwide.

The iPLC technology module is an embedded communication and control module that contains proprietary communication and processing technology consisting of both hardware and firmware developed by PCN Technology, Inc.

In addition to the semi-custom hardware, the iPLC™ also contains a core processing section that operates as the digital communication engine while also multi-tasking software bandwidth for an Application Layer that can additionally provide real time data acquisition, analysis and equipment control.

Along with the elimination of wire, bulk and weight; numerous value added opportunities can be realized by utilizing PCN’s robust and hardened products to provide features that have previously been very difficult to implement.

Industrial Control, Automation and Sensor Networking markets are excellent markets for PCN technology due to the evolution of distributed control utilizing multiplex networked sensory and control signals.

Feature enhancements are easily attained by utilizing the onboard iPLC application layer to provide new bells and whistles or simply replacing costly and/or bulky redundant wiring and components within the existing system design.

Technology Details

The PCN iPLC™ Module is an open protocol Conducted Medium Network Convergence Communication System that seamlessly operates with wireless technologies creating a ubiquitous networking environment operating at speeds from 2,4,8 Mbps and up.

Implementations consist of support for industrial protocols such as Profibus, Ethernet, Fieldbus, CAN, DeviceNet, Modbus 2Wire/4Wire RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, or direct TTL UART interface to a microcontroller system. Standard baud rates supported are 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 14.4K, 19.2K, 28.8K, 38.4K, 57.6K, 115.2K, 230.4K, 250K Baud.

In the robust mode the PCN module communicates on 120 redundant communication channels in order to provide maximum reliability and flexibility. Multiple Socket and Network MAC Addressable Configurations are also supported to provide compatible communication.
